Why Grass Fed and Grass Finished Meat is important?

You may be asking yourself why we even need to eat grass fed or grass finished meat. Besides being delicious, the health benefits of eating grass-fed, grass-finished meat are abundant.

Imbalanced omega 3 and omega 6 ratio

Grass fed meat is three times higher in omega 3. A big problem in the American diet is the imbalance of Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio, which should be 4:1 but is now commonly 20:1, because of over use of soybean, corn oils, and the fat in grain fed beef. More people have very imbalanced omega 3 and omega 6 ratio due to American standard diet. By eating diet rich in omega 3s, you can really start to get that balance back.

Genetically Modified Grains

Another reason is genetically modified grains that are fed to conventional cattle. Genetically modified foods are produced by inserting a gene from an external source (may be viruses, bacteria, animals or plants) to an unrelated species. The problem with the genetically modified food is that they are so new and haven’t tested out. So we really don’t know how they affect the human body. This is a controversial subject as these haven’t existed long enough to draw conclusive facts about the direct link of their consumption and human health problems. I don’t want to eat that if I can avoid. Are you happy to eat that?

Pesticides

Another problem with the genetically modified foods is that they are changing the way pesticides are used in agriculture. Genetically modified grains are often engineered to be more pesticide resistant. They need more pesticides in order to grow, ultimately increasing the pesticide levels in our diets. Yes, these pesticides are stored in the fat of the animals that are grain fed. These pesticides are shown to have many health risks such as disrupting neurotransmitters. Many studies shows the link between the long term low exposure to pesticides and the chronic health conditions including cognitive impairments, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s later in life.

Antibiotics

One of the big problems is that the biggest users of antibiotics in the U.S are for livestock. Antibiotics are overused in animals because cows become sicker when they are eating soy and corn and the disease can spread as quickly as animals live so close together in feedlots. So they are given antibiotics in order to prevent the illness or infection from happening in the first place. This frequent use of antibiotics develops antibiotic resistant bacteria in animals which can be passed to humans eating such meat.

Environmental Factor

Conventional cattle feedlots have considerable negative impacts on the environment while the organic ranches do not. Grass from organic pastures is neither treated with pesticides, nor fertilized with chemicals but with the cows’ manure itself. Eating rich green grass, filled with Omega-3’s, on the open field is the way cows are meant to live their whole lives. This way of living is beneficial to the cow, our environment and to us because the pasture is a sustainable circle where the cow fertilizes its own feeding ground. Grass fed beef is regenerative for the soil. While conventional feedlots are detrimental to the environment because they produce millions of tons of manure. Grass fed beef eliminates the problem of disposing tons of manure made by animals in conventional feedlots. There is little or no waste generated unlike the run off from feed-lots that pollutes our environment, contaminates nearby water supplies, taking a large amount of sea life. Runoff from the feedlots also contaminates vegetable crops with E. Coli bacteria that is present in the manure.

Inhumane Practices

One more major issue is that cows at feed-lots are standing knee deep in their own feces for an average of 60-90 days, facing major overcrowding and rampant disease, another way the beef gets contaminated at high volume slaughterhouses. Unlike those conventional raised cattle , grass fed cows are treated in human way, free to range on grassy pastures throughout their lives, eating natural diet of grass, with access to shelter.

Unnatural Diet

Cows are not meant to eat grains and by doing so the PH in their stomachs becomes out of balance, which is what causes deadly strains of E-coli. These cows don’t live more than 6 months when fed corn because they tend to die from infection or liver failure, which is why they can only be fed grains for a few months before slaughter.

Butcher Box Meat Delivery Review

Wondering where does this meat come from?

This meat comes from the small organic ranchers and farmers from all around the country that believe in the same principles that butcher box is found for. Where animals are raised humanly with sustainable practices, making sure that animals are cared for, without feeding on pesticides, antibiotics and growth hormones.

Convenient and customized

Butcher Box is really a very convenient way to getting these meats at home without always running out and wondering where to source clean and grass fed meat. You choose what package, kind and size of package you want and how often you want the box delivered. They offer both monthly and bi monthly subscription service. So, you can get butcher box meat delivered on monthly basis or bi-monthly basis (i.e. every month or every other month). You can even get it just for one time, you don’t have to get it every single month and make sure that you check that box so you don’t get it every month without realizing it. Money Saving Tips

Here I share how to get most out of your money when you are trying to order butcher box.

Butcher Box is offering free bacon for Free and $20 off on your first order. Plus Shipping is free for life. This is a limited time offer. Get it here..

Choose Custom Box or All Beef Box

Butcher Box offers different options to choose from when ordering meat.

These options include:

  • Custom Box,
  • Beef and Chicken Box,
  • Beef and Pork Box,
  • Mixed Box
  • and All Beef Box.

Choose one of these two options to get most out of your money. First, Custom Box that allows you to choose your favorite meat cuts and the other one is All Beef Box. I found that these are the most economical options when it comes to Butcher Box. I love beef and I find that ordering all beef at Butcher Box is going to save you more money, specially when you are on a carnivore diet. So, while checking box, prefer choosing ALL Beef Box as pork is a lot cheaper and so is the chicken. So, choose All Beef Box or Custom box and order your preferred beef cuts.

Get the most by choosing expensive cuts

If you choose the custom box, order the cuts that are expensive. I like to choose the most expensive cuts to make sure that I get most for my money. A little secret, just choose the Rib eye, that will make you happy. If you are like me and love rib eye, just choose it, that makes it very economical to buy at butcher box. Last time I got a coupon of 120$ dollar and I got 12 rib eyes that is a very great value and it lasted a good long time.

Meat Delivery Review with COOKING TIPS

  • I received the All Beef Box in the cardboard packaging material that is recyclable, the reusable insulated bag and dry ice. They made sure that meat stays secured.
  • Meat arrived frozen, fresh and vacuum sealed in plastic. I never get spoiled meat from butcher box.
  • Another good thing about the meat delivery is that the meat is divided in manageable portions so you can stock up for the whole month and take out from the freezer as per your needs without thawing more than your desired quantity.

ALL Beef Box Review

Here are the delicious cuts of grass fed beef that I received in ALL Beef Box:

2 1lb Ground Beef

This is 85% lean and 15% fat. Here I share some of my ground beef recipes that you can try. Ground beef makes for delicious meatballs dinner like this one pot Italian Meatball Minestrone Soup. You may like to make this ground beef recipe for keto kebab salad with tahini sauce and this casserole would make for an easy weeknight dinner. You would also want to make these comforting taco salad and taco pie recipes made with ground beef.

1lb Steak tips

This beef cut has loose grain texture.  It is perfect for soaking up marinades. You can grill them or saute them with mushrooms. These steak tips would be great as kebabs in the summer. One important tip is to cut them in same size to make sure that meat is cooked evenly throughout on the given temperature.

2 Filet Mignon

The next cut that you would want to get is filet mignon for sure. This one is most tender beef cut from the least fatty part of the cow. It makes for a most tender steak with unbeatable texture. It is often grilled, seared or roasted but adding fat like butter is very important as it  can quickly dry out as it is less fatty. And for that reason most people prefer a well marbled Ribeye over it.

1 Tri-tip Roast

With any roast, you have to first defrost it, stir it and then slow cook it. You could do that all in one in instant pot if you have on. Otherwise you can stir it on the stove and then put it in the slow cooker or you could do that in the oven too. This cut is more of a slow cooking, very tender but it takes a long time, slow and low is the secret. But make sure that you have a lot of broth covering it so it does not get dried. The moist, tender and mild flavor of tri-tip roost makes it perfect and hit with my easy chimichurri meat sauce and can also be used for beef marinade. Grilling the tri-tip would also be great in the summer. You can do it both ways, on the grill, or in the oven. You will get amazingly tender results both ways but that ultra crispy black exterior will come from the grill.

2 Ribeye

The super star of all the beef is ribeye . It is the most expensive, juicy and flavorful beef cut taken from the center of the grass fed beef rib. It has most abundant fat marbling. You normally get two of them in All Beef Box. I love ribeye so much. Ever since I started a carnivore diet it is kind of new true love and I crave them all the time. If you want a steak with the best sear, ribeye steak is the best selection. It is fattier than other steaks, the fat provides an insane flavor that tends to be richer than other cuts. And pan-searing helps bring its strong delicious flavors out. Here I share how to make a perfect steak without a grill.

2 New York Strips

New York  strips are full of delicious beefy flavor and one of the most expensive beef cuts. You usually get two in All Beef Box which is a great deal. They have a big tendon on the back that you can eat and feel you are getting some collagen stuff.

1 Shoulder Roast or Chuck Roast

This is another one that you would want to cook low and slow. I got one in the All beef Box. This is excellent, I cooked it for my husband the other night and he became fan of it. If your family is not concerned about carbs, you can put potatoes or something like that to make it a full meal.

This is what I have cooked out of these grass fed beef cuts so far:

Juicy burgers

Other Concerns

Is packaging punctured or leaking when it arrives?

Some people complaints about the problems with the packages leaking or the sealing around the plastic leaking a little bit. I have not really had this kind of bad experience every time I received my meat from Butcher Box. But what you can do about it, when you are defrosting meat just put it on a plate or some kind of dish so it does not leak in your fridge.

Is Butcher Box too expensive? Is the Butcher Box worth it?

Lot of people think that it is expensive. I have done a lot of math around it, so, before making any judgement, consider these few factors:

  • I really think If you are comparing Butcher Box with even Costco prices, you will get just about the same thing for your money, specially when you factor in the taxes, the time and the energy it takes you to go to the store.
  • The other thing about the expense is that when you first order, you get a big discount and also butcher box has always throwing in something special, they always have something on sale that you can add in, which makes the total price go down — a really good thing!
  • Another good thing is your monthly subscription will by default include nicer and pricier cuts of meat you would not likely to be able to afford otherwise.
  • If you are a person looking for grass fed meats and quality is your priority, butcher box is the best choice. When you know that you are getting a much better quality and the sourcing is much better than what you are getting at the store, butcher box worth the cost.
  • Especially for the people who do not live near a farm and have very limited grocery store options like this, can’t get such quality meats otherwise. So I must say it really worth it.
  • They conveniently deliver meats at your door, free of cost, which is a great deal and something to keep in mind.
  • If you are like me and the best quality grass fed beef is your priority, then believe me Butcher Box is worth it..

I hope this Butcher Box Review helps you make a better decision about Butcher Box. If it is your first time, just jump in and try it. I swear the quality really surpasses what I expected!

You really would save a lot on your first order. The experience of convenience and fun of just coming home that awesome box at your doorstep will make you so excited to try Butcher Box in so many new ways. And for sure, create something awesome in the kitchen.

My very first butcher box arrived on my doorstep completely thawed. Not quite $300 worth of meat and I had to re-freeze it which of course will affect the quality. I noticed that some of the re-frozen meat wasn’t very well sealed because there were air pockets and I’ve seen a lot of crystallization. So I’m trying to use that as quickly as I can. I called to cancel my subscription because it was a failure on the first go. When I checked my account later it said next shipment December. So I intend to change my credit card number because I don’t trust them not to continue shipping to me. I check them out at the Better Business Bureau and there are many complaints. I wish I had looked there first.

My sister likes eating nutritional food and she wants to make sure that the supplies are safe. It was explained here that a butcher box has grass-fed meat at a reasonable price. Furthermore, it’s recommended to consult experts when in need of a butcher box review.
